The Shack

Even though I love reading, it's been longer than I care to admit since I've read an actual book cover to cover. This summer a friend asked if I had heard of the book "The Shack", which I hadn't at the time. Since then, I have read a couple articles/reviews on it and it has been in the back of my mind to check it out.

This week was my sister-in-law's birthday and I had thought about buying her the book as it sounded quite interesting. I called my brother who said he already had the book. He gave it to me to borrow. So, I started to read and finished it today (Which is probably why I haven't blogged all week as my spare moments were spent on the book. Or, it could also be that there wasn't anything noteworthy to post.)

"The Shack" by William P. Young is a story about Mack, a man whose daughter is kidnapped and brutally murdered. A few years after her murder, Mack receives an invitation from God to meet Him at the shack where they found his daughter's bloody clothes. Mack goes and works through the meaning of suffering as he spends the weekend with the Trinity.

"The Shack" asks some of the most important questions people can ask, and explores the answers in a way that is very accessible. It also does an amazing job of helping one understand the Trinity, God's love and the power of forgiveness. I have read a number of comments on the book since reading it and how lives have been changed because of it. This book does generate some controversy. It seems people either love it or hate it. Personally, I feel there are a lot more positives than negatives to glean from reading it. If you haven't already read it, I would highly recommend it. If nothing else, it will really make you think!
