On Thursday morning Mela, Griffen, Anja and myself left for Hackensack, MN (home to the National Chainsaw Sculpting Invitational and Paul Bunyan's wife, Lucette). It's located about half way between Brainerd and Bemidji, a 360 mile drive. We stayed at a resort owned by friends. We missed the peak Fall colors by about a week, but it was still a beautiful drive. The kids enjoyed playing in the leaves and on the tree/log pile, chasing the resort bunnies, collecting shells from the beach and taking in the cool, fresh Fall air. We saw a number of deer and thankfully I didn't hit any. Anja was very disappointed that she didn't get the chance to "pet" one. The kids did well on the ride without the use of our DVD player (I didn't even try it as I think it is in need of repair from the last trip). All in all, it was a nice little trip.
